Memorandum

and thereafter, subject to passing an efficiency bar

at that point, by annual increments of £10 to £600 a

year. Your service during the three years of

probation will count as service for purposes of leave

and pension. The rules as to these subjects are as

stated in the enclosed print, Hastern No.121, which

also contains information as to the rate of payment

of salaries in the Colony. You will note that the

rule as to vacation leave does not apply to officers

attached to an educational institution. The special

rules as to the leave of auch officers are shown in

paragraph 3 of the print. In the event of your

marriage at any time you will be required to resign

your appointment. A memorandum i enclosed giving

infomation as to conditions of living, etc. in Hong

Kong.

3. It is also to be understood that your

services will be available for any suitable duties

upon which the lovemor, in the interest of the

public servics, may think it desirable to employ you;

and that you may be required to teach in any school

in the Colony. Subject to the permission of the

Director of ŝducation you may undertake private

tuition.
